Ryukakusan is a throat medicine whose main ingredients are herbal (balloon flower, senega, apricot kernel, licorice) with cough-suppressing and expectorant effects. The surface of the human trachea is lined with ciliated cells that continuously vibrate at a rate of about 1500 times per minute, secreting mucus from the inner wall of the trachea. Dust, dirt, and bacteria that have entered the respiratory tract are trapped in this mucus and expelled from the body through the vibration of cilia, providing a natural cleansing effect. When the throat becomes inflamed and irritated due to overuse, smoking, or exposure to dirty air, phlegm can get stuck, reducing the cleansing ability and leading to coughing. At such times, taking Ryukakusan activates the secretion of mucus on the tracheal surface, enhances ciliary movement, removes phlegm, and has cough-suppressing and anti-inflammatory effects, primarily due to the effective ingredient saponin in balloon flower.
