Alpro Foundation eases financial burden for tube feeding patients

The financial strain on families with tube-fed patients is a pressing concern, with monthly costs ranging from RM2,500 to RM3,000. Nutritional support alone can amount to RM1,000 to RM1,600, making it challenging for lower-income families. Some resort to using conventional milk powder, unaware of the nutritional gaps, leading to serious health consequences. Addressing this issue, the Alpro Foundation initiated the Metabolic Basic Sponsorship Programme in 2019, providing financial relief to families and ensuring sustainable support for tube-fed patients.

The programme is sustained through the sales of Metabolic Basic, an oral nutritional support product designed to exceed the nutritional needs of tube-fed patients. For each packet purchased at Alpro Pharmacy, one packet is donated to the Alpro Foundation to support families facing financial constraints.

Impactful contributions to patient support

Ostwin Paw, the CEO of Alpro Foundation, highlighted the impact of the programme, stating, “Since its inception, we have supported over 250 patients, with more than 65% benefiting from our assistance for over 3 years. We have distributed over 15,000 packets of nutritional support, saving patients’ families approximately RM6.13 million.” Paw expressed gratitude for the continuous support from Alpro Pharmacy’s customers and announced plans to extend aid to another 50 tube-feeding patients.

The sponsorship programme welcomes applications from individuals in need of support. Interested parties can apply at any Alpro Pharmacy outlet, submitting required documents such as the patient’s recent medical report, identification, existing expenses records, and income declaration. Applications are processed within 7 working days of submission.
