ALPRO Pharmacy has kickstarted its “Safe Medication Disposal Campaign” with the launch of fairytale inspired visuals on its social media channels.

The campaign aims to highlight the importance of safe medication disposal and underline the adverse effects of treating medical waste as regular garbage through a series of visually-telling graphics inspired by fairytale characters such as Snow White, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Baloo the bear from The Jungle Book.

To enable the immediate disposal of medication, Alpro Pharmacy has prepared medicine disposal bins for consumers nationwide to dispose of unused or expired medicines safely.

“As the nation develops a better understanding of the consequences of improper disposal of medication, we would be able to make conscious and ethical decisions when it comes to handling expired or unused medication,” says Alpro Pharmacy pharmacist and director of branding and trade marketing, Lee Yin Chen.

Before launching the campaign, Alpro Pharmacy, in collaboration with International Medical University and Monash University, conducted a pilot survey to understand the public’s awareness and understanding of the matter.

The results from the survey indicated that 83.2 per cent of respondents in the study were aware that improper handling of unused medicines causes harm to the environment and the ecosystem, while 66.4 per cent of respondents stated that they had not received any form of education or awareness on proper disposal of medication.

Fairytale inspired visuals have been used to create awareness.
