Project Bangku

By Alpro

March 2, 2022

During this global pandemic, we have seen the tremendous rise of E-commerce and how it has grown within these 2 years.

At the same time, if you do not know, more trees are being cut down too, to create wooden pallets for warehouse usage.

This surge of e-commerce has increased the usage of materials for packaging. Many of these pallets which were produced usually end up in dump sites, or being placed in corners of warehouses and left to rot, and some would be reused for the same purpose.

Somehow, during this pandemic in Malaysia, SOPs are to be adhered to and each outlet can cater to a limited amount of customers during each visit, and they have to wait and queue outside. Alpro being a silvercare friendly pharmacy, we thought of a new initiative.

Which incorporates the concept of Upcycling. Upcycling is a concept where an object or item being re-used or refurbished into some other thing that serves a better purpose with additional value. We converted these pallets into benches, and placed them at our outlets.

These Bangkus which were created serve as resting places and waiting areas for elderly customers. Most of these wooden pallets that were once left unused, were now being processed and converted to a new purpose with a new life.

This project was faced with some limitations and before we can place any of these bangkus outside our outlets, we have to apply for permits and licenses from the authorities first.

Thus, we have ran petitions and support from members of the public by creating awareness activities to gain more attention and at the same time, to inspire other corporates to start doing the same thing by giving their unwanted materials a second life with a better purpose and value.
