The world has been in the pandemic mode for almost 2 years and this Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) continues to spread at a slow burn with the second wave, third wave, and beyond. As of this writing (20/12/2021), more than 274 million people in the world have been infected and over 5.35 million people have died. In many parts of the world, COVID-19 cases are reducing, meanwhile, there are also some other countries that are seeing spikes. What hit us the most is this COVID-19 is still evolving and bringing us surprises like Delta and the most recent variant, Omicron.
Viruses constantly change through mutation. We will never be able to predict their transmissibility, the severity of disease, and the effectiveness of the existing vaccines (do we have sufficient protection against the variant?). With all these uncertainties, all we know is this pandemic is far from over and what we can do is keep enhancing the layers of prevention against COVID-19.
